Completing the Psychedelic Science certification through Johns Hopkins University provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific, historical, and clinical dimensions of psychedelic compounds. The program explored how substances such as psilocybin, MDMA, and ketamine interact with the brain, particularly their effects on neural networks, perception, and consciousness. I gained insight into the resurgence of psychedelic research, including current clinical trials demonstrating promising outcomes for conditions like depression, PTSD, and substance use disorders.
The coursework also emphasized the critical importance of set and setting, therapeutic frameworks, and ethical considerations in both research and clinical applications. I developed a deeper appreciation for the cultural and historical context of these substances, as well as the responsibility required when discussing or working with them in modern settings. Overall, the certification strengthened my ability to approach psychedelic science with a balanced, evidence-based perspective, integrating both scientific rigor and respect for traditional knowledge.
